Houston's 'civility ordinance' expanded

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

More neighborhoods will now be part of the city's "civility ordinance."

On Wednesday city council voted to extend the ordinance to several areas, including Montrose and the 6th Ward. The civility ordinance prevents anyone from lying down, sitting or leaving personal belongings on sidewalks between 7am and 11pm.

It first covered downtown sidewalks in 2002 and was later extended to include midtown.
