(10/26/06 - KTRK/HUMBLE, TX) (KTRK) -- Blood-covered body parts, severed limbs, and a coffin. It's that time of year, but residents in Humble say the Halloween decorations at one home were just too much. The matter was even taken to the homeowners association, who assessed a fine.
Except for a creepy spider and festive greeting, Susie Moorman's front yard has lost its spirit.
"It's a shame it had to go this far," she said.
For two weeks, her lawn looked like a scene out of a horror movie. Some of her neighbors had fun with it.
"I really liked it," said neighbor Geoff Ondrus. "I thought it was real creative."
But not anymore. The blood splattered body parts, coffin, and grave markers have all been moved to the back. Apparently, the limbs on meat hooks were too much for some neighbors and their children, who complained to the civic association, which in turn threatened a fine.
"Our intent was to never hurt any children," said Moorman. "We love children."
What was Halloween spirit to Moorman and her fiancé was inappropriate to others.
"A little too much," said neighbor Amanda Long.
Long didn't complain, but she's glad the decorations are gone from plain view for the sake of her five-year-old daughter.
"I don't like answering questions about body parts," she said.
The neighborhood, Moorman says, can have their inflatable pumpkins and dangling ghosts. Her decorations will live on in all their gory glory in her back yard.
"I think from now on, we'll do all our decorations in the back yard, including Christmas, and well just have all our fun in the back yard and the neighbors can't see anything," said Moorman.
Moorman says she'll leave a sign in the front inviting the neighborhood children to the back yard if they want to see the display.
The civic association did issue a $100 fine, but Moorman says that was waived after she and her fiancé complied immediately.
