Police looking for two hit-and-run drivers who killed retired officer

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Police are looking for two drivers who ran over a man who served the city for 21 years as a police officer.

Former Officer Michael Hamilton was struck and killed by two hit-and-run drivers on Jutland and Bellfort in southeast Houston.

It happened late at night on Thursday, October 19. Hamilton was walking to the corner store when he was first struck by a black and brown late-70s model pickup truck. A witness says that driver briefly stopped, then turned off his headlights and drove off. Moments later a brown 2004-2005 pickup truck also hit him. That driver also left the scene. Officer Hamilton's family is in disbelief.

"It's the worst I have ever heard of," said Officer's Hamilton's mother Mary Wright. "I didn't think people could even do that."

A reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
