Raw sewage bubbles up outside Galleria

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

There was a stinky situation at one of Houston's premiere shopping destinations.

Raw sewage was bubbling up and spilling out on to the sidewalk just outside Neiman Marcus in the Galleria area. Shoppers and those waiting for the bus had to walk through it. On Tuesday, the city of Houston came out and after some digging, determined the problem came from private Galleria property and urged property owners to examine their pipes.

"The problem we're experiencing here came from the building on private property," said Wes Johnson with the Houston Public Works Department. "One of the building officials came out a little earlier saying they were going to try to clean it up and they admitted they had seen this overflowing last Friday night."

The city says if a similar problem is reported again, they will notify the health department.
