Rollover accident injures two children

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Two young children were hurt when the car they were riding in rolled over north of downtown.

It happened Tuesday morning on the North Freeway near North Main. Police say a driver lost control on the freeway, hit the retaining wall and then rolled the car in a ditch.

Two children, ages four and five, were not restrained and suffered head injuries.

"The children suffered head injuries, scalp lacerations," said Milton W. Martin with the Houston Police Department. "They appeared not to have been restrained. There were no car seats in the vehicle."

Two adults in the car had minor injuries. A third adult inside was not hurt.

Those children were taken to Texas Children's Hospital with cuts to their heads.

Authorities said the parents could face charges. It depends upon the severity of the children's injuries. They could be charged with anything from allowing children to ride unrestrained to child endangerment.
