Houston mall Santa supplier looking to improve background checks

Thursday, December 07, 2006

A Houston area company that manages Santa photo booths in malls is vowing to improve security after a sex offender was found working at a Denver mall.

Sepia Photo, based out of Cypress, Texas, supplies mall Santas and workers to booths in more than 15 states, including Texas.

Authorities say a man hired to take pictures at a Santa booth in Denver served prison time for child molestation. He's not accused of doing anything wrong at the mall, but was fired when the company found out about his past.

Sepia Photo says it will now hand over a list of employees to police for background checks. That's in addition to background checks the company already does.
