Hit-and-run suspect killed while trying to flee on foot on South Loop

Monday, January 08, 2007

The man behind a hit-and-run accident was killed when he tried to get away.

Police say two men in a red pickup truck took off after they slammed into the back of a Ford Escape on Telephone Road. A witness chased those men in a vehicle until they stopped, got out and tried to run across 610.

"Actually saw them stop and get out of their vehicle and attempted to flee from him, crossing over the freeway, at which time another vehicle struck one of the two parties that exited, that took off running," said Pete Casares with the Houston Police Department.

The man who was killed is believed to have been the driver of the truck. The mother and three-year-old child in the Lexus who ran over him were not seriously hurt. The passenger of the truck kept on running and still hasn't been found.
