Supposed lottery winner found dead

Thursday, February 01, 2007

A man, who witnesses say just won the lottery, was found dead in Texas City. Some believe he may have been targeted because of the winnings.

Around 2:30 in the morning, residents along Second Avenue South awoke to gunfire.

"I woke up to two gunshots," said resident Clyde Locke. "I heard voices hollering about next door, when I heard that I called 911."

As Locke watched, Texas City police discovered the victim who had been shot multiple times. The victim was later identified as Willie Washington, 35. Police say he might have been killed over winnings from a scratch off lottery ticket. They don't know how much money he had, but believe the killer did.

"We have some individuals who we are looking at and at this point we have not named any suspects," said Texas City Police Department Chief Robert Burby.

Investigators have not arrested anyone but believe the killer knew the victim. As for how much money he won, police are still looking into that.
