Texas DPS warns of supposed state troopers raising money

Monday, February 05, 2007

If you get a phone call from someone asking for donations for state troopers, watch out.

In the past few weeks, people in Galveston County have been getting fake calls for help. DPS officials say they have received reports of private groups calling people claiming to raise money for state troopers killed in the line of duty. While some associations with officers do solicit money over the phone, DPS says they are not doing this.

If you have any questions about giving to any organization, experts say to check with the Better Business Bureau first.
