(2/16/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- There was a disturbing discovery at a local elementary school Friday -- an eight-year-old boy with cocaine. He says he took it from his home.
The child had the cocaine at Scott Elementary School in northeast Houston.
There were no answers where Houston school district officials say the young boy lives. Arrested inside the home was Eladio Moreno, the man identified by Children's Protective Services as the boy's father. He's charged with possession of a controlled substance. Also arrested was Juan Cabrero, charged with possession of marijuana.
Police confiscated amounts of marijuana and cocaine from the home. As the investigation continues, there may be more arrests.
"What we're looking for right now is if any of the other household members were aware of what was happening," said Estella Olguin with CPS. "We're also getting the other adults in the house tested for drugs just to see if it's going to be safe for these children to go home."
The eight-year-old boy is the oldest of four children living in the home. CPS says all four children are now living with friends of the family. It's a scenario that's upset parents at Scott Elementary, the school the boy attended.
"It is a shame because, like I said, someone else's child could have gotten a hold of it and there's no telling what could have happened," said parent Danielle Bell.
"They're children," added parent Frances Lucio. "What's going to be next?"
As for the child, he's been reassigned to an elementary alternative campus.
