Man hit by Taser in hospital ER

Friday, February 16, 2007

A man has apparently been hit with a Taser at a Houston medical clinic emergency room.

It happened just after 3pm in the St. Luke's Minor Emergency Center at the Kelsey Seybold main campus on West Holcombe.

The male patient was suffering from kidney stones and had been waiting in the E.R with his wife when the two became unhappy at the length of the wait. After waiting for almost two hours, Eyewitnesses say the couple allegedly caused a disturbance by pushing a security guard. Houston police were called and the officers responded by shocking the man with his Taser.

"Apparently they didn't get the treatment or the service they needed in a timely manner," said Sgt. R.J. Borza with the Houston Police Department. "An argument ensued with the doctor. We had an off duty HPD officer working an approved after job here. He intervened with the argument. A scuffle ensued and we were called."

The man was checked out by doctors. Both the patient and his wife were taken into custody.
