Sugar Land may follow Houston's red light lead

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

The city of Sugar Land could be following Houston's lead in red light cameras posted at key intersections.

The Sugar Land Police Department found that the system could prevent traffic accidents. Administrators say cameras are also working in the north Texas town of Garland where during a 31-month period, red light program resulted in a 25% reduction in car accidents.

Officials say they will continue to evaluate the red light camera programs until a final decision is made.
