Man fights off home invaders with broom

(3/09/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- Armed with a broom, an apartment resident fought back against two burglars this morning. Police say the men broke into his place while his wife and daughter slept.

Police say two men broke into the front door of the apartment on Lyerly and Airline while the family slept. The suspects began rummaging through the family's belongings.

When the burglars tried to open the bedroom door, the husband went after them with a broomstick, sending one of them into the front window.

The suspects took off, but police caught up with and arrested them a short time later. Police brought the suspects back to the scene for the family the identify. The would-be burglars didn't show any weapons during the attack.

One of the men arrested for the crime was slightly hurt during the scuffle. No one else was hurt in the incident.
