Lightning hits Clear Lake home, nearly causing explosion

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

A Clear Lake family got a rude awakening this morning when a bolt of lightning came dangerously close to causing an explosion.

It happened on Rockhaven and Scenic View. A husband, wife and two kids heard the strike, smelled gas, and rushed out of the house. It didn't take long for them to realize what had happened.

The lightning bolt had blasted a large hole in their roof. The bolt also hit a gas line in the house, but luckily it didn't cause a fire.

"Lightning hit a gas main and put a hole in the roof, size enough for two people to crawl through and we're putting plastic on the roof right now," said Gary Bennet with the Houston Fire Department.

Everyone made it out of the home safely.
