Scary day for kayaker on White Oaks bayou

Thursday, March 15, 2007

All the rain over the past few days has left area bayous and creeks filled to the brim, and on Thursday, the rough water proved pretty scary for a kayaker.

John Runnels, who says he regularly kayaks down White Oak Bayou lost control in the swift current and fell out of his kayak. Our cameras were there downstream as he finally pulled himself to safety. He called a friend who told us this is not the first time something like this has happened.

"Well, when you know John, you kind of expect things like this," said that friend.

"I've got to admit, I was pretty dazed when I came up on the highway here, " said Runnels. "Very cold, boots full of water."

Besides being a little wet, the kayaker was okay.
