(4/22/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- A family was rushed to the hospital after a chain reaction wreck that may have been caused by two cars racing down the street.
The crash happened in Pasadena on Spencer at the East Belt. Five vehicles were involved, including an ambulance. Pasadena police believe two Mustangs may have been racing and ran a red light.
Among the vehicles was an ambulance transporting a patient. There was a total of seven people taken to area hospitals, two of them by helicopter transport. Two children were among those injured.
Investigators have carefully gone over the wreck scene to determine who caused the accident. We spoke with several residents who came the scene. They say there have been many accidents before at the intersection.
"Younger people with faster cars try to beat that yellow light," said resident Cathy Pretty.
"That turning lane, where it goes right there towards the Beltway, it doesn't last long enough for you to get underneath there. People behind you, they'll run it. They'll run you over," added resident Heather Jenne.
"It's unusual to have this many. We don't have that many very often in this city involving five vehicles," said Pasadena Public Information Officer Vance Mitchell. "At an intersection likes this, where there's a lot of traffic, it doesn't take much to put three or four vehicles together. This time, it happened to be five."
There was one vehicle that left the scene and police are asking for your help in finding it. It's described as a grey mid 1990s Mustang with a 'Hot' sticker in the back window.
Investigators have not yet released the names of any of the victims in the accident. They say it could take up to 10 days to figure out who was at fault.
