(4/23/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- Parents are being notified after an eighth grader was found with a gun at school.
Early Monday morning, a student let administrators at Cook Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD know that an eighth-grade student was in possession of a gun. An assistant principal retrieved the unloaded weapon from the student's backpack, which was locked in the teen's locker. There was no ammunition.
Law enforcement officials were notified and the student was removed from campus. Disciplinary action has been taken.
"I want to assure you that at Cook Middle School, we consider student safety as our number one priority," said Principal Sherma L. Duck. "I appreciate the cooperation of our student body in making us aware of this situation so we could take immediate action."
A letter was sent home with students Monday afternoon to alert parents of the situation.
