Officer fatally shot woman who lunged at him with knife in police station

(5/06/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- A woman charged through a downtown police station with a knife raised over head screaming at officers to kill her.

It happened at the station on Travis near Dallas. Police say the woman came in wanting to talk to an investigator. Officers turned her away because she had a history of bringing a weapon into the building. She paced outside for a while and then came back in screaming hysterically.

HPD's Nate McDuell explained, "She was yelling and screaming, 'Shoot me, kill me. I want to end this.' She was also stabbing herself in the head and in the stomach with the knife."

One officer used his Taser gun, but it had no affect. Officials say she lunged at another officer and he fired his gun, hitting her in the chest.

The woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
