East Harris Co. motel fire being blamed on exhaust fan

Monday, June 25, 2007

Firefighters in east Harris County were there to stop a fire at a motel from spreading to the entire building.

Last night, managers at the Super 8 motel along the East Freeway put out a small fire in an exhaust fan About an hour later, the fire popped up again on the roof. Apparently, the fire had spread to the attic. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof and put out the flames for good.

"We've covered the roof and put a tarp on the roof in case there's bad weather," said Lt. F. Spencer with the Baytown Fire Department.

Two rooms have a small amount of fire damage. Only a handful of guests had to be moved. No one was hurt.
