HISD board to vote on teacher pay raise

Monday, June 25, 2007

Thousands of Houston teachers will find out today if they'll be getting a bigger paycheck next year.

The HISD school board will vote on a pay raise at a meeting this afternoon. The average raise would be just under six percent, the second big increase in a row for teachers.

The $1.5 billion budget proposal also includes increased funding to individual schools and money to hire 20 more police officers to patrol campuses. Seven million dollars are earmarked for fine arts programs.
