Police identify driver accused of causing fatal wreck

Monday, June 25, 2007

Police have identified a man believed to be responsible for a deadly accident in northeast Houston.

The man and two others were killed in yesterday's crash on the Eastex at Rankin.

Police released the identity of the man behind the deadly accident as Eddie Dewayne Golden, 30. Police say he had a criminal history.

Authorities say Golden was behind the wheel of a white car when he was involved in some kind of accident on the Eastex Freeway yesterday afternoon. Another motorist saw the accident and began following Golden when he didn't stop.

A few miles later going outbound on Highway 59, witnesses say Golden did a U-turn on the freeway and began driving into oncoming traffic. He then hit two cars -- a red Pontiac and a maroon colored Ford Taurus with at least five people inside.

Two women in the car died and three children were injured. One of those children died on Monday at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Golden died on impact.

Golden had three drug convictions and was sentenced to five years in state jail back in 2002. Police have not discussed a possible motive behind his actions.
