(7/15/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- Police have just released the sketch of a man accused of raping a bus driver Sunday morning. They say the man rode the METRO bus, then held a gun to the driver's head and attacked her.
A METRO spokesperson says the woman was able to get a good look at her attacker, and police were able to create a composite sketch. The driver was attacked at the end of her route just before 6am Sunday.
Officials say the man rode the bus during the entire route. When he didn't get off the bus, the driver asked him why he wasn't getting off. That's when the man pulled out a gun, took the woman to the back of the bus and sexually assaulted her.
The spokesperson says the man then told the victim not to move, and ran off the bus with her purse.
All METRO buses do have panic buttons, and the driver pushed hers after the attack. She was so traumatized that she drove herself to the METRO west facility. Police were able to follow her there by using a tracking device.
We're told the driver was treated at a local hospital and released.
The attacker is described as a black male, 5'8" to 5'10", dark complexion with thin build. He had long bushy hair and an accent. Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to call 713-222-TIPS.
