Hunter's body found months after disappearance

Monday, July 16, 2007

Searchers in a western Colorado wilderness area have found the remains of Southeast Texas hunter who's been missing since October.

Walter Benskin, 53, of Santa Fe, Texas, disappeared October 26th in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. That's about 125 miles west of Denver. Rio Blanco County sheriff's officials say their search and rescue team found his remains Saturday.

Authorities say Benskin had been hunting elk with a relative when they separated with the intention of meeting later. Benskin never returned to camp, and about two feet of snow fell in the area that day.

Search crews, friends and family hunted for Benskin for several days last fall -- then again this spring and summer.
