Pregnant woman killed in alleged street racing wreck

Sunday, July 22, 2007

Doctors were able to save the baby of a pregnant woman who died in a possible street racing accident in southeast Houston.

Police say around 2:30 Sunday morning, two cars were racing on the Gulf Freeway when one driver changed lanes and slammed into the back of a pickup truck. The impact sent the truck down an embankment, rolling over several times before hitting a concrete pillar.

The woman, who was eight months pregnant, died from her injuries. A man and a two-year-old child were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

The driver who hit them suffered minor injuries. He claims he was not racing.
