Major new transportation center coming to Texas Southern University

Saturday, July 28, 2007

A National Transportation Security Center of Excellence is coming to Texas Southern University.

TSU will receive millions of dollars over the next four years to fund the center. Congressman Al Green, along with TSU board members and METRO, made the announcement in southeast Houston Saturday. Congressman Green played a vital role in establishing the center at TSU as part of the 9-11 Commission bill. The center will conduct transportation security research and provide securities training for the country as well as Houston.

"For it's rail, for the port system that we have here, for the airport, for buses, for all aspects for transportation," said Congressman Green.

TSU is just one of seven universities across the country that will have a security center.
