Mother frantic to find missing daughter last seen with her father

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Volunteers resumed the search for a five-year-old girl whose mother claims she was kidnapped by her father. The search teams are combing over a brushy area near Kendleton in southwest Fort Bend County.

It was another sleepless night for a Houston mother frantic to find her daughter, Alondra Diaz Garcia. The girl has been missing since last month. A search yesterday in the rural community of Kendleton turned up nothing. The family remains hopeful today will be different.

"We take it very slow and check just about any place that we can go, we go," said volunteer Jan Tipps.

Alondra weighs about 38 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair and is nearly four feet tall. According to her mother, she was last seen with her father, Reynaldo Diaz.

The girl's mother says she and Diaz were divorced and he was scheduled to visit the girl June 1. The mother dropped her off with her father at a McDonald's on Gessner and Bissonnet and hasn't been seen since. The mother fears the worst, saying Reynaldo Diaz has a history of domestic violence.

"I believe he is in Kendleton. He has a ranch there with his brothers and I am certain he has taken my daughter there," said the girl's mother, Dorotea Garcia.

Texas Equusearch has mapped out the area, assigning search areas. They are hopeful that today's search reveals some type of result.

"We're hoping to find the girl one way or another," said search coordinator Frank Black. "But when we search and she's not there, we know that's eliminated just start looking somewhere else."

More volunteers are expected to join in the search. The girl's mother is expected to arrive on the scene later this afternoon.

Authorities said that Diaz has a felony warrant issued against him for violation of a child protective custody order.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
