Over 2,500 immigrants naturalized

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

More than 2500 immigrants are celebrating their first day as brand-new American citizens.

All of these people took part in a naturalization ceremony today in northwest Harris County. The new Americans hail from 115 different countries. Wednesday's ceremony also included eight members of the U.S. military.

"I'm able to go and vote, which is something a noncitizen typically couldn't do," Curtis E. Burgess, a new American, said.

Each year, more than 450,000 immigrants become U.S. citizens during naturalization ceremonies across the country.
