(9/10/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- Power lines in a southwest Houston neighborhood popped, terrifying some residents when their homes filled up with smoke.
It happened around 7:30am on Glen Meadow in the Meyerland area. We're told that a wire connection on a utility pole came loose, sending live power lines to the ground. One live wire crashed into the back fence of a home. The power mishap also caused an electrical surge in one man's home.
"Everything started popping outside, you could see balls of fire going down the line, and inside my house all of the lights turned on real, real, bright," said resident Stathy Demeris. "I thought the bulbs were light going to pop it was so bright."
About six homes had smoke coming from their electrical panels. Dozens of homes in the area are still without power. CenterPoint crews are there repairing those lines. No one was hurt.
