Delay granted in former astronaut Lisa Nowak's trial

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

It will be a little while longer before former astronaut Lisa Nowak goes to trial.

A judge has delayed the trial until January, prompted by attorney requests for more time. Both sides needed time to prepare since Nowak is claiming a new defense strategy.

Nowak was arrested in February after police said the married mother of three had driven nearly 1,000 miles to Orlando, Fla. Police say she went to Florida to confront a woman about a former lover.

Nowak, 44, pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping, battery and burglary with assault. She is pursuing a temporary insanity defense, according to court documents.
