METRO light rail involved in wreck downtown

Tuesday, October 09, 2007

There's been an accident involving METRO light rail in downtown Houston, injuring several people.

Just after 3pm, a red SUV apparently went through a red light on Pease at Main, and was T-bone by the train. Two people in the SUV were injured. One person reportedly suffered a cut to the forehead. Paramedics had to remove the other victim from the vehicle. That person was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, reportedly in critical condition.

Seven people from the train were also transported to area hospitals. Their injuries do not appear to be severe.

METRORail operations were suspended during the accident investigation and clean up.

METRO tells us this was the 29th accident involving a light rail this year. Last year there were 36 accidents.
