Wife of coach accused of murder expected to testify

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Fireworks are expected today in the David Temple trial. He's the former high school football coach accused of killing his wife. Temple's current wife is expected to take the stand later today.

Authorities have long cited David Temple's extra marital affair as a motive behind his wife's murder. Temple's mistress, Heather Scott, is now his wife, and Scott could take the witness stand today in his murder trial.

Temple`s former friend and co-worker, Quentin Harlan, took the witness stand this morning. Harlan described how he and Temple would socialize at Heather Scotts home in the months leading up to Belinda Temple's murder.

When asked to describe Temple's behavior, Harlan said, "David is a controlling personality. He got very angry."

And during a conversation weeks after Belinda Temple's funeral, Harlan said he asked David Temple, "Wouldn't you like to know who did it?"

He said David Temple replied, "What's the difference? It's not going to bring her back."

Belinda Temple was found dead in a closet at the couples Katy home in January 1999. Police said the home had signs of a staged burglary and found it curious that someone had gotten past a vicious family dog in the backyard.

Suspicion turned to Temple when his affair with Scott came to light. But Temple was only charged years later with the murder, a charge he denies. He and Scott met while at Hastings High School in Alief, where they both worked.

Defense attorneys have suggested Belinda Temple put the family dog in the garage the day she was murdered and that there's no way David Temple could have committed the murder since the defense's timeline prove he was not there at the time.

Prosecutors say Temple killed his wife to be with his mistress.

Temple denies the charge. Heather Scott could be called to the witness stand this afternoon.
