Several cars damaged by debris on Southwest Freeway

Monday, October 29, 2007

There was a big mess overnight on the Southwest Freeway. It was all due to a huge piece of debris near Spur 527.

Around 11pm Sunday, about 20 drivers hit a metal beam that was lying across the road. When they hit the beam, they blew out their tires.

Some folks were lucky. They only had one tire that blew. But most of the drivers had several damaged tires and they had to have their vehicles towed.

That beam has been cleared, so motorists who travel through the area of the Southwest Freeway at the 527 Spur will be ok. There's no word on where that beam came from.

To report debris, call the Houston Office of the Department of Transportation at 713-802-5000.
