Girl suspended for bringing knife to middle school

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

A middle school student has been suspended for bringing a knife to school.

According to school officials, a female student at HISD's Hartman middle school bragged to another girl that she had a knife in her backpack. The second girl took the backpack to an athletics coach and told him about the knife. School officials opened the pack and found a 5-inch knife in the bag.

That girl now faces a three-day suspension for bringing the knife to school. The girl in question apparently didn't pull the knife out or make a threat, just commenting to another student about having the knife.

The case is under investigation by the HISD police and no classes were interrupted.
