(11/13/07 - ALVIN, TX) (KTRK) -- An inappropriate picture is stirring up controversy for an entire community. A nude picture has left a junior high school cheerleader humiliated, and parents are asking why more wasn't done to the people responsible for spreading the embarrassing image.
Any junior high student will swear to you that being 13 is difficult. Maybe more so for one cheerleader at Alvin Junior High School who discovered that her peers had seen a nude picture of her taken without her knowledge.
"I was like there is no way," said the girl's mother. "I have heard of a lot of bad things but not anything like that. How hateful can you be?" The girl's mother asked us not to identify her or her daughter because of the embarrassment she's already endured in school. She says her daughter was spending the night at a friend's house and was taking a shower when one of her friends snapped a picture of her. The mother of the girl in the picture says her 13-year-old daughter was tricked. One of her friends distracted her daughter while the other girl took the photo. "This will follow my daughter for the rest of her life," the mother told us. She says the worst part is how many people have seen the picture. The school district says one of the girls sent that picture to a boy. During class, that boy sent the picture to a second boy and that student in turn forwarded it to a third. All the boys are on the school football team. The mother worries that the picture has been shared with more people than anyone realizes. The girl's grandmother worries that the picture might show up on the Internet to be seen by child predators. "She's a baby," the grandmother said in tears. The school district says the two girls involved were suspended for three days as were the three boys who shared the photo. The boys also are receiving two days of in school suspension for disrupting class while sharing the picture. The mother of the girl in the picture says the two girls who snapped the photo deserve to be punished more than the boys in this case since they started the trouble.
