(12/01/07 - KTRK/WEST COLUMBIA, TX) (KTRK) -- A group of excavators is going to be in Brazoria County digging for more state history following an amazing find.
Recently in West Columbia, construction workers developing a parking lot for a new Walgreens, discovered a cistern underneath concrete. It's a water-holding device used by men who founded the Republic of Texas.
"This is not stuff you read in a book this is right now, this is history being made right now as we talk," resident Sandy Weems said. The store's developer has already agreed to donate the entire front section of the property for a historic park. There could be many more Texas artifacts there once the ground is excavated.(Copyright © 2007, KTRK-TV)
