It's unsightly -- walls filled with graffiti. But on Saturday, more than 150 volunteers teamed up with police in Alvin to clean it up.

It's called "Super Saturday." The Alvin city council recently passed an ordinance allowing city officials to clean up graffiti on private property with the owner's permission. But, the city doesn't have the staff to clean up graffiti full-time, so they need volunteers.

"Once the graffiti is removed, we will stake out several locations," said Alvin PD Chief Mike Murkel. "And in the past, we have caught gangs or associates of gangs coming out to try and remark their territory, so to speak."

Several volunteers say they'll come back on future Saturdays to continue the cleanup.
