A Christmas tree may be to blame for a fast-moving house fire in Fort Bend County overnight.

It happened around 2:30am on Trace Glen. Smoke detectors woke up the Davis family at their home in Mission Bend. The father, mother and four young children all got out OK. They say the fire moved so quickly, it's only their smoke detectors that gave them a few extra seconds to escape.

"As fast as that fire took off -- I'm glad I had them (smoke alarms)," said homeowner George Davis. "I don't think I would have gotten to my son upstairs."

The fire appears to have started in the living room, where the family kept their Christmas tree. The father believes that's the cause. But arson investigators will make the final determination.
