Authorities were forced to use tear gas and a battering ram to end a SWAT standoff near the Heights overnight.

SWAT teams descended on the house on Michaux near 7th Street last night after a woman called to say her neighbor hit her with a brick.

The man spent eight hours holed up until officers smoked him out with tear gas. Officers say the suspect has mental health problems.

Officers have identified the suspect as Michael Ray Gabel. He's been taken into custody on a mental health warrant.
