Houston's first Hispanic female cop dies

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We've learned Houston's first Hispanic female police officer has died.

Velia Orgtega died at the hospital Monday night.

She was wounded in a drive-by shooting while visiting relatives in southeast Houston three weeks ago. Andrew Garcia, Bruno Aviles and Raziel Munoz have been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and assault in connection with the shooting.

Those charges are likely to be upgraded. Ortega was 78 years old.
