Members of PETA dressed in elephant costumes outside the zoo's entrance and held signs calling for an end to its elephant breeding program. PETA claims the program is a failure, and elephants in zoos are prone to poor fitness and other health problems.

Mac, a two-year-old elephant, died of a viral infection at the zoo earlier this month.
