Around 2am, firefighters rushed to the Wortham Center on Preston and Smith Streets because of smoke and flames. The flames triggered the sprinkler system. Investigators believe someone set about five different fires in the building's stairwells.
The Wortham Center did not sustain any major damage, but the building does have a lot of smoke stains.
An arson team is investigating.
