Man returns from hospital to discover murder

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman in her 60s was murdered in her home, just feet from a busy road. Now neighbors are on edge.

Deputies are hoping someone saw something. The victim's elderly boyfriend found her stabbed to death at a home on Treaschwig in northeast Harris County Saturday.

Sheriff's deputies say the crime happened in the middle of the afternoon along a very busy road. They are looking for anyone who may have seen something that could lead them to the killer. Investigators are trying to locate a black male, 5'10"-6'0", with a medium build. The man is said to be driving a older model silver/gray pickup truck of an unknown make. This male and vehicle were spotted at the home on the day of the homicide.

Sheriff's deputies say the 66-year-old woman was found dead in her bedroom and they believe she died of multiple stab wounds. The brutal crime is disturbing to neighbors along Treaschwig Road.

Neighbor Tony Duran said, "We feel sorry about what happened to them."

Duran says what's even more upsetting is that investigators say it happened in broad daylight.

"We have two little kids and this happened in the daytime," he said. "In the night time it's very dark over here, so we are very concerned about that."

Deputies in homicide say they believe robbery was the motive and the suspect entered the woman's home sometime between 2pm and 6pm.

"We know this is a busy road here," explained Cory Pool with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We're hoping someone may have seen someone carrying electronic items out of the residence or a suspicious vehicle not used to being here."

The victim's boyfriend and his daughter arrived at the home shortly after 6pm and found the woman. The man had been in the hospital just before returning home.

Investigators say there were signs of a struggle inside the home. They are not sure if the suspect may have forced his way inside. While deputies are looking for any witnesses who may have some kind of clue, neighbors are certainly looking over their shoulders.

"I will look to be more safe and stuff," Duran said.

The victim's boyfriend was released from the hospital Sunday evening. He was so distraught by what he found he was taken back to the hospital.
