An ambulance was apparently heading to a rescue and the paramedics needed to be rescued themselves. Their vehicle began to take on water near Memorial City Mall off the Katy Freeway near Wilcrest.

The service road off the Katy Freeway at Wilcrest is under water. The exit to the service road in that area was shut down to prevent more drivers from getting stuck.

There are reports that there are several cars submerged in the high water. A rescue crew headed into the flooded area by boat to try locate stranded drivers. At least six motorists were rescued from the the high water at that location. So far, no injuries were reported.

Major problems have been reported along the Highway 290 inbound feeder road at Gessner. Police say as many as 15 vehicles were in standing water.

See how the heavy rain is affecting your commute.
