Boy, 11, accused of sexually assaulting girl, 6

HUMBLE, TX (KTRK) -- An 11-year-old boy stands accused of sexual assault. The victim was a six-year-old girl.

Police said all of this happened at a day care in Humble last month. We're now hearing from an expert who has said this type of crime is more common than you may think.

The boy has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child. He now sits in a juvenile detention facility.

Harris County Child Protection Services said the incident Humble Police are investigating happened at a day care on Isaaks Road. Investigators said the boy sexually assaulted the girl while they were watching TV. Police said it happened under a blanket, but it's unclear to detectives if she was lured there.

Licensed clinical social worker Alberta Torres said she deals with many incidents involving younger children and sexual assault.

"Generally, children, when they talk about what's happened, if it's true, it will be consistent," said Alberta Torres of the Children's Assessment Center. "They would have to have told someone."

In this Humble case, police said the boy has been taken to juvenile detention and not released to his parents.

While the Children's Assessment Center said they have seen cases like this at day cares before, neighbor Art DeLeon said he was surprised to learn of the arrest and said as a parent, he realizes the importance of educating his son.

"It's sad for both of them. The little boy is only 11. I mean, that's kind of serious stuff. It's bad for the little girl and him," said DeLeon.

Investigators said the daycare owners have been cooperative and we want to stress they have been cleared of any wrongdoing. The owner confirms they have made one change in that no more blankets will be allowed.
