HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Health care reform has resulted in some lively town hall meetings locally, but the debate now has a new gathering style dubbed a "house call."
Last night, physicians and patients sat side by side, raising their own specific concerns. The meeting near Hermann Park raised some common themes, including access to health care, insurance companies interfering with doctor patient relationships and the decreasing age of patients.
"Elementary schools, middle schools and high schools become the farm pups, the future heart failure, dialysis patients, kidney disease patients, defibrillator patients, and they're coming at an earlier and earlier age," said Dr. Baxter Montgomery, a participant in last night's meeting.
The meeting was hosted by the Harris County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association.
Tonight, Congressman Gene Green will host a more traditional town hall style meeting. Green will be at the Hartman Community Center in southeast Houston from 7pm to 8pm. The meeting is co-hosted by the Manchester Civic Club. The congressman will have the latest information on activities in Washington and federal projects in the Houston area.
Congressman Green says the meeting is for his constituents only and plans to check IDs at the door.
