Spring teacher makes court appearance

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Spring high school teacher appeared in court Monday morning on three counts of having an improper relationship with a student.

Matthew Tillman is on administrative leave pending the outcome of his case. He was arrested Saturday. All of the charges against him are related to his alleged involvement with a female student. In court Monday morning, his bond was lowered to $20,000 for each count.

Tillman has been a history teacher and volleyball coach at Spring high since 1999. He is the second teacher at the school in less than a month to be accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Spring high science teacher Deanna Higgins was arrested October 12. Investigators say she had two sexual encounters with a 16-year-old student at her home in March and April. Court documents show Higgins' ex-husband reported her to the school after he discovered questionable text messages on a phone Higgins had given their 8-year-old son.
