Homeowner shoots, kills man inside apt.

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

A homeowner shot and killed someone he thought was an intruder.

It happened around 3am at the Quail Harbor apartments in the 2000 block of Augusta near Burgoyne. Police say a resident shot and killed another man he thought was a burglar. The resident told police he'd been burglarized before and thought that's what was happening to him this morning.

"He heard a loud noise at his front door. He'd been burglarized before and he assumed somebody was burglarizing his apartment," said Sgt W.L. Meeler with the Houston Police Department homicide division. "He retrieved a shotgun from the side of his bed and saw a figure coming into his room. He fired one shot, striking the male in the chest and the male fell and he recognized the male as somebody that he knew before."

The victim died at the scene. Police have not yet determined exactly how the two knew each other. The resident is now being questioned by police.

Authorities say that so far, everything that the resident is telling them is matching up with the evidence.

The victim hasn't been identified. An investigation is underway.
