HPD officers accused of beating teen testify in court

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police officers allegedly involved in the beating of an unarmed teenage burglary suspect were in court Wednesday testifying before a grand jury.

The eight HPD officers involved in the alleged beating back on March 23 all testified before a grand jury. Very little is known about what went on behind closed doors Wednesday because the proceedings are kept secret.

Houston police officers Philip N. Bryan and Gaudencio Saucedo were accompanied by their union attorneys Wednesday morning as they went to testify before a grand jury. A third officer, Raad Hassan, was also seen walking in.

The three are among the eight HPD officers from HPD's Westside Command accused of beating Chad Holley. The 16-year-old burglary suspect allegedly ran from police after they caught him breaking into someone's home back on March 23. A surveillance camera at a nearby storage center caught the alleged beating on tape.

With the possibility of criminal charges looming over their heads, Officers Bryan and Saucedo's attorney told us his clients, "seem to be OK. No one wants to be in this situation. They are hoping at the end of the day their actions will be vindicated. "

As the investigation moves forward, a source tells Eyewitness News that members of the grand jury have already seen the videotape.

Earlier this month, shocking photos were released of the injuries to Holley's face, which he claims to have suffered during the alleged beating. As of right now, Holley has not been called to testify before the grand jury.

Holley has been charged with burglary. The FBI, Harris County D.A.'s office, and HPD's internal affairs division are all looking into the case.

The eight officers involved remain on paid administrative leave from HPD as the investigation continues.
