Brazoria County residents upset about a proposed annexation by Pearland spoke out against the plan on Monday night.

The city wants to annex 622 acres of land near County Road One.

The residents told city council members voting on the plan that they live outside the city limits for a reason. They don't want zoning restrictions, and they feel their rural way of life is being threatened.

"They don't like the people that might live in a mobile home or have a little bit of junk in their yard," said Ron Anderson, who opposes the annexation. "They don't like this. They want the upper class stuff. They want the lowlifes gone, and that's including me. I got cows in my front yard."

The city counters the annexation will improve infrastructure and protect property values.
