Missouri City police say they've broken up a kidnapping and extortion deal.

On Thursday, a Missouri City resident reportedly received a call from his son's best friend, saying that he had been kidnapped. The victim said he would be killed by his captors if ransom demands were not met. The resident notified his son, who happens to be working in Afghanistan, who then called the kidnapping victim's cell phone and spoke with his friend and his captors.

The Missouri City resident and his son agreed to comply with the initial demands. The resident met with the kidnapping suspects at an ATM, but only paid a portion of the ransom money.

On Friday, the Missouri City resident received another call to provide the remaining, and largest portion, of the ransom. As concern for the victim began to escalate, the resident contacted the Missouri City Police Department for assistance.

Missouri City detectives and the special crimes unit arranged the second money drop at a prearranged meeting place. Undercover officers placed the money inside of a parked vehicle and when the suspects arrived to the prearranged location with the kidnapped male, they were arrested. The victim was recovered on location, unharmed.

Hirlando Barrera, 28, Luis Flores, 22, and Jose Rendon, 43, have been charged with aggravated kidnapping. All three are being held in the Fort Bend County Jail under $50,000 bond each.

The following morning, Missouri City detectives, special crimes unit, the East Fort Bend Regional SWAT Team, Houston Police and Houston Fire executed a search warrant at the residence in the 5300 block of Danfield in Houston where the victim had been held captive. A sawed off shotgun and large amount cash was also seized.
